Biden heads to South Korea, Japan on first presidential trip to Asia

News Sports Entertainment Life Money Tech Travel Opinion

President Joe Biden heads Thursday to Asia. The trip is meant to send a signal that the U.S. can handle issues in two regions at once, Europe and the Indo-Pacific.

  • Biden will visit South Korea and Japan, and will meet with heads of state from Australia and India.
  • North Korea could launch a missile or nuclear test during Biden’s trip to the region.
  • Biden will try to strengthen an economic alliance with the region.

WASHINGTON – After months of focusing on the biggest conflict in Europe since WWII, President Joe Biden embarks Thursday on a five-day trip to Asia, turning his attention to the region of the world he had previously hoped to prioritize.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine won’t be far from mind, however, as Biden visits South Korea and Japan, meeting with leaders of those nations as well as the heads of state from Australia and India.
