ALONA MAZURENKO — THURSDAY, 27 OCTOBER 2022, 19:13

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has stated that a nuclear attack on Ukraine would make no political sense.

Source: Putin, in his live-streamed speech at the plenary session of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Moscow

Quote: “We do not need a nuclear attack on Ukraine. It makes no sense, either politically or militarily.”

Details: At the same time, the Russian dictator said that “as long as nuclear weapons exist, there is a risk that they will be used.”

Putin added that they “had never talked about using nuclear weapons” in Russia. He claimed he had always reacted to the words of Western politicians.

Previously: The Russian dictator has repeatedly threatened to use nuclear weapons in his speeches when talking about the war with Ukraine. In particular, he said that “the Compass Rose” could turn, i.e. towards Russia’s enemies.

He has also switched Russia’s nuclear forces to a special mode.

Ukraine’s Western partners have responded to Putin’s threats.

Background:

Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu told his French counterpart Sébastien Lecornu in a telephone conversation on 23 October that Ukraine was allegedly preparing provocations involving a “dirty bomb”.
