Don’t force airport growth
Disturbing news in the Sunday Desert Sun: “The Palm Springs City Council voted Thursday to approve a new program that would offer airlines that bring new flights to Palm Springs International Airport the chance to receive thousands of dollars in incentives and fee waivers.”
We don’t need this.
Organic growth is inevitable but should be controlled and limited as well. And forced growth is not in the interest of the citizens of Palm Springs or the Coachella Valley and will continue to make our enchanting valley increasingly like Orange County, a county already out of control.
This is not in the interest of improving our environment. It is not respecting the quality of life we have in Palm Springs and it, in fact, is bowing to the almighty dollar. Stop this insanity.
And it is doing nothing to control the increased noise and pollution from our misplaced airport.

Column blamed Trump, ignored Biden’s weakness
Re: “Putin: an unhinged bully left unchecked too long” (Column, March 24):
I find it hard to believe that Rex Huppke is pointing a finger at Donald Trump for Vladimir Putin’s impudence and the mess that the world is in right now while totally neglecting to mention Joe Biden.
Trump kept Putin and Kim Jong-un in check and also helped stabilize the Middle East while he was in office. Putin certainly watched our shameful, disorderly withdrawal from Afghanistan last summer, and deduced that Biden has neither the will nor the acumen to stop him.
I fear what China might do in Taiwan. Journalists who ignore important facts are doing us a great disservice. Today’s liberal media, unlike the late Walter Cronkite, are no longer interested in getting it right, and most of the public knows it. They have only themselves to blame.
