On The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tuesday, actress Mandy Moore talked about the final two episodes of NBC’s long-running hit drama show This Is Us, and her reaction to reading the script for the second to last episode.
“I will tell you that the penultimate episode, which airs in, like, a week, I threw up after I read it,” admitted Moore. She added, “And maybe that’s just because it’s really close to the bone for me. Like, this has been my life for the last six years and it’s, like, I simultaneously have to say goodbye to the character, to my family and friends on set, and this character’s also coincidentally saying goodbye as well, so there’s a lot wrapped up in it. But I still think that, like, you might need a day off from work.”
The antepenultimate episode of This Is Us aired earlier in the night on Tuesday, which ended with Moore’s character Rebecca Pearson reaching the end of her life, and was followed by a trailer for next week’s penultimate episode teasing the Big Three saying their final goodbyes to their mother.
Fans, of course, took to social media sobbing:
Remember when we thought we would take Jack’s death the hardest?! Jack’s hurt me. Miguel’s broke me. Rebecca’s will surely kill me. #ThisIsUs #ThisIsUsFinalChapter

Needing a day off from work after next week’s episode probably sounds worrisome for the fans, who were already an emotional wreck this week, but, according to Moore, the series finale will make up for it.
“But the finale is a bit more of a hug. I think there’s a little bit more levity. Yeah, the second to last destroyed me. I have a feeling it might destroy people too,” shared Moore.
The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on NBC.
