Laura Ellen Bacon transforms lots of of kilos of willow branches into amorphous, oscillating varieties. Ascending upward alongside the facet of a constructing, wrapping round abbey columns, and located within the English countryside as if manifested out of skinny air, every monumental construction instructions its atmosphere.
The Derbyshire-based artist has labored with willow for greater than 20 years. She describes listening to the fabric intently and noticing how every department carries a novel line high quality. Discovering magnificence in accumulation as she weaves numerous segments collectively, Bacon creates what she refers to as “three-dimensional drawings.”
Although a few of her items can weigh upward of 500 kilos, every evokes a way of fluidity and motion. “The work I make is fixed and motionless, but I attempt a sense of organic growth,” Bacon explains. “I enjoy the visual impression that the work is not finished growing and may slowly continue to reach, grasp, or take over the site.”
Her latest set up, “Rejuvenation,” engulfs the Denver Artwork Museum’s atrium, towering greater than twenty ft excessive. The prodigious work is impressed by the pure root methods of willow itself, capturing how its capillary networks path and develop.
