Fantastical flowers burgeon and bloom within the digital animations of Zachary Corzine. The Portland, Oregon-based generative designer takes what he describes as quite a lot of software program like Cinema4D, Houdini, Substance, Octane, Redshift, and After Results to create dynamic, atmospheric visuals.
Between tasks for purchasers like Apple, Audi, Disney, Nike, and lots of extra, Corzine explores new methods and results in tasks like Fake Flora. Taking inspiration from actual botanicals like sunflowers, pincushions, lilacs, and extra, he animates every specimen as if recording a timelapse, embracing an otherworldly geometry.
“This series was a year-long passion project, driven by my desire to explore hyper-realized flowers that exist in a space where nature and technology entwine in a delicate, algorithmic dance,” Corzine says. Every specimen is flawless and unfurls with a barely uncanny polish. He provides:
Every bloom was designed to evoke each familiarity and thriller—types that echo the natural but defy the constraints of the pure world. By viewing flora by means of a procedurally generated lens, we are able to reimagine the botanical panorama as an ever-evolving entity.
Fake Flora blossomed from the growing pressure Corzine observes between expertise and nature—a disparity he finds tough to reconcile. “As climate change and environmental destruction continue, this project is both a love letter and a means to explore how technology can be used not to replace nature but hopefully reconnect us with it in new and meaningful ways,” he provides.
