The superstar couple of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, whose on-and-off relationship has garnered plenty of media attention since the early 2000s, married in Las Vegas on Saturday, according to Lopez and a court document.

The midnight wedding of the pair, who are known as Bennifer, at A Little White Wedding Chapel was the “best night of our lives,” Lopez wrote in her fan newsletter, On the JLo. She said their children were in attendance.

“We flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world,” Lopez wrote in her newsletter.

She continued: “We barely made it to the little white wedding chapel by midnight. They graciously stayed open late a few minutes, let us take pictures in a pink Cadillac convertible, evidently once used by the king himself (but if we wanted Elvis himself to show, that cost extra and he was in bed).”

The names of Lopez, the singer, actress and dancer who most recently starred in “Marry Me” and released the Netflix documentary “Halftime,” and Affleck, whose roles in films like “Argo” and “Gone Girl” won him critical acclaim, appeared on a marriage license issued on Saturday in Clark County, Nev.

The wedding included “a dress from an old movie” and a jacket from Affleck’s closet, Lopez said. “In the end it was the best possible wedding we could have imagined,” Lopez wrote.

She added: “We did it. Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient.”

Affleck has not yet commented publicly. Representatives for the stars did not immediately respond to requests for comments on Sunday.

The couple announced their engagement in April, when Lopez shared a video of herself wearing a giant green engagement ring.

After starring together in the 2003 romantic comedy “Gigli,” Lopez and Affleck began dating and became engaged in the early 2000s. In 2003, they said through a spokesman that they had postponed their wedding because of “excessive media attention,” and broke off their engagement months later.

Their dating lives have been the subject of much public discussion and speculation. After going their separate ways, Affleck married the actress Jennifer Garner, and Lopez married the singer Marc Anthony.

Lopez and Affleck rekindled their relationship during the coronavirus pandemic, and pictures of their rendezvous flooded the internet in spring of 2021.

Affleck spoke with The New York Times in 2020 about having faced alcoholism and mental health challenges in recent years. He said during the interview that his 2018 divorce from Garner was the “biggest regret” of his life. Lopez and Anthony divorced in 2014.

In February, Lopez talked about her relationship with Affleck on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” saying she had not expected to get back together with him after nearly two decades. “I don’t think anybody was more surprised than us,” she said with a laugh, adding, “It’s a beautiful thing.”
