Sweeping thick brushstrokes throughout the canvas, Ekaterina Popova (beforehand) emphasizes the refined textures of dwelling. Layers of sheets and quilts drape throughout a mattress, daylight streams via skinny, white curtains to heat a eating room, and a brief stack of books rests on a nightstand. Tinged with nostalgia, every portray welcomes the viewer into an intensely private area.
Popova’s newest physique of labor, Room for You, is on view now at A Very Severe Gallery in Chicago. Rendered in pale pinks, blues, and greens in an impressionistic type, the oil work seize the mellow consolation of a lazy Sunday morning and the enjoyment of a vibrant bouquet as if seen via bleary eyes. The dreamlike works shift from one inside to a different and body an intimate fragment of home life, whether or not half an autumn eating room or a mattress with the perimeters minimize from view.
Room for You runs via June 29. Peek into Popova’s course of on Instagram.
