“Just want to make sure that you don’t think this is one of those cameo-every-week types of shows,” the self-aware, fourth-wall-breaking Jen Walters (Tatiana Maslany) warned viewers in episode 3 of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
Of course, there has been one major cameo that the series has teased since its Comic-Con trailer: Matt Murdock, aka Daredevil, who was seen tussling with his fellow lawyer-superhero at the preview’s close. The beloved comic book character finally showed up in the latest episode — the eighth of the season’s nine-installment run. There’s a fight, sparks flying, a blooming professional partnership, too.
Daredevil’s inclusion has generated plenty of anticipation from Marvel fans (and maybe a little too much excitement — OK, a lot too much excitement, at its prospect). But there’s also been a segment of the MCU fanbase that’s complained that Murdock — who falls on the more serious side of Marvel heroes — won’t at all jibe with She-Hulk’s lighthearted, quippy sitcom tone.
That debate continues post-airing, but we will tell you what Charlie Cox, the British actor who played Murdock on Netflix’s MCU series Daredevil from 2015-2018 and made a (comedic) cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home, thinks of it all.
“I knew I was doing one or two episodes in the She-Hulk show, and I read the scripts and tonally it’s completely different from anything we’ve ever done,” Cox told Yahoo Entertainment at Disney’s D23 Expo in September (watch above).
“But I feel like I’ve played this character long enough to have earned the opportunity to experiment for one episode. And if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work.”

Cox will soon get his own series, 2024’s Daredevil Born Again, which was just announced at Comic-Con in July and is still in the early stages of development.
“Not knowing what our tone is gonna be, but knowing that we’re on Disney+ and therefore could be different, I thought [She-Hulk] would be a really good opportunity to find a tone that is consistent with some of the runs of the comic, where Matt Murdock/Daredevil is a little bit more lighthearted, he’s a little bit more tongue-in-cheek and playful and silly.
“And of course if you don’t do that, if you come into a show like She-Hulk and you don’t do that, you become the butt of the jokes. You’re too serious, you’re not [playing along]. So you’ve got to kind of adapt to the world a little bit, and the tone a little bit.”
