Former firefighter turned baking extraordinaire and entrepreneur Derek Kaplan had the imaginative and prescient for Fireman Derek’s Bake Store lengthy earlier than its first retailer in Wynwood. Kaplan, a self-taught baker, began by squeezing limes by hand at age 15 to create his well-known Key Lime Pie. What started as a meals truck finally led to the opening of the unique Wynwood store in 2014. Over the previous decade, Fireman Derek’s has expanded right into a dessert empire, with Kaplan and his proficient staff of bakers creating over 50 distinctive pies, truffles, cheesecakes, cookies, brownies and ice cream at their thriving storefronts in Wynwood, Coconut Grove, and Fort Lauderdale, with new places on the horizon.

In celebration of its first ten years since opening its brick-and-mortar location, Fireman Derek’s has revealed a surprising new mural by artist Carlos Solano at its most important retailer in Wynwood. The mural is a gesture of gratitude to all those that have supported the model over the previous decade.

“We are so excited to be celebrating 10 years of business here in Wynwood,” Kaplan says. “It’s a tremendous milestone that we will continue to build upon every day. Thank you to all of our customers for believing in our brand and desserts over the years; we are so grateful and can’t wait to celebrate this weekend.”

The bakery is supporting the Wynwood arts neighborhood by providing prints of the brand new mural signed by each the artist and Fireman Derek. These unique signed mural prints can be found for $30 and may solely be bought in-store on the Wynwood location. A portion of the proceeds will probably be donated to an area arts group.
