By means of Stacks of Laundry and Humble Vessels, Danym Kwon Cherishes the Mundane

For Danym Kwon, the idea of house is mutable. On view at Hashimoto Modern in New York, Pricey Moments presents Kwon’s tender, pastel-hued recollections of household life. Tucked inside her signature stacks of laundry are small vignettes of siblings digging within the sand on the seaside, a pair wandering via an artwork museum, and a guardian snuggled up in mattress with their baby and a e book. The artist’s vessels are related, depicting a lady strolling alongside a candy-colored path or a younger boy taking part in with blocks and a toy automotive.

Having labored largely on canvas, she ventures into birch sculpture for this exhibition, plucking the doting characters frequent inside her work and presenting them in three dimensions.

Seemingly mundane, these familial scenes turn out to be magical and revered in Kwon’s palms. She beckons viewers right into a world the place even chores like folding clear garments provide house for reflection and calm. Whereas we would not treasure such easy moments within the current, Kwon suggests, we must always dangle on dearly to the small embraces and quiet acts of togetherness that in the end make us really feel at dwelling.
