• Adrian Chiles’ piece (Who may deny a scorching, drained supply driver the fruit from their cherry tree?, 12 June) jogged my memory of a tree we had on the entrance fringe of our backyard by the pavement. When its luscious purple fruits have been ripe, we’d usually see somebody pluck a handful, solely to spit them out a second later. They have been crab apples.
