From an workplace constructing in Southwark, London, an progressive enlargement emerges in white glazed brick. Structure agency Corstorphine & Wright conceived of “The Scoop,” a recent twist on a historic constructing within the Union Avenue Conservation Space, to modernize an present construction and acknowledge its previous. About 500 meters from the River Thames and centered on Union Avenue and Southwark Bridge Highway, the quarter consists of predominantly Nineteenth-century industrial warehousing, industrial areas, and ecclesiastical constructions.
“It was important for us to honour the cultural and historic context of the area and respect the neighbouring church building, ensuring its visibility and reverence,” says David Croswaithe, director of Corstorphine & Wright. “The resulting building is a carefully orchestrated balance, allowing its neighbours to shine whilst also shining itself and adding to the vibrant architectural cultural variety of the area.”
“The Scoop” reuses an present four-story constructing, affixing a aspect and upward extension that will increase workplace area and provides a roof backyard with panoramic metropolis views. Its attribute, semi-circular void creates a “visual bridge” between its facade and an adjoining church’s putting round window. When seen from an angle going through the church, the concave type of the brand new facade supplies a putting body for the historic characteristic.
