Throughout the compartments of reimagined wood crates or carved sculptures that open on to disclose inside kinds, Adrian Landon Brooks and Jaime Molina discover the chances of discovered supplies in mixed-media sculptures and work. The artists’ duo exhibition No Man’s Land at Preacher Gallery highlights their kindred but distinctive approaches.
Brooks brings discovered supplies to life by collaging and layering, utilizing daring strains, shade, and sample to recommend sacred symbols and merge a way of newness with age. Molina carves his “cuttys” from hunks of timber, pounding swaths of nails to recommend the hair and beards of solemn male figures.
An enigmatic narrative undercurrent runs by No Man’s Land, as each artists draw on folks artwork and craft to discover geometry and assemblage methods. Cloaked figures and animal-human hybrids nod to the metaphysical in Brooks’ items, whereas Molina’s pensive figures faucet into the mysterious of consciousness.
The present highlights how Brooks and Molina have created “a shared world that feels both ancient and brand new—a thoughtful mix of mysticism, memory, and hand-hewn craft,” the gallery says.
No Man’s Land opens on Could 8 and continues by Could 29 in Austin. Discover extra on the gallery’s web site.
